Emotional Literacy contains a wealth of information about techniques to develop and support pupils, with specific activities to support each of the five subscales.
This Emotional Literacy Assessment and Intervention tool provides practical material that can be used by anyone involved in the education of children and young people. It identifies strengths and weaknesses in the area of emotional literacy to provide a better understanding of these competences and, if necessary, highlight areas for intervention.
This assessment addresses five key areas:
- Social skills.
Three checklists cover:
- Pupil – the child marks themselves against statements such as ‘I often lose my temper’ using ‘very like me’ through to ‘not like me at all’. Each answer has a numerical score, which combine into an overall emotional literacy score.
- Teacher – completed by the teacher, and scored in the same way as the pupil checklist – produces a score for each of the subscales (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills) as well as the overall emotional literacy score.
- Parent - mainly used for the parents of children receiving 1-1 or small group intervention – produces a score for each of the subscales, as well as the overall emotional literacy score.
These can be carried out either on photocopiable paper forms, or on-screen using the supplied interactive CD.
