Sometimes it is difficult to say in words or write what is felt, thought and why. It is often therefore beneficial to use visual aids as an alternative method for expression.
This "River" deck includes 60 beautifully illustrated cards based around water, featuring waterfalls, lakes, streams, bridges etc. and comes with a guidebook detailing activities and interventions. We also have a "Road" themed set (67 cards) with paths, rollercoasters and roads (product code 55842).
These resources are extremely versatile and can be used in many different ways, being suitable for children or adults in 1-1 sessions or as a group activity.
Each person selects cards that are meaningful to them. These can be used in isolation or joined together to create a pictorial "path" - a personal visual representation of a life journey, specific periods, a sequence of events, past or present feelings, or what an individual perceives their future holds.
Each chosen image is a valuable insight into the innermost thoughts and serve as a purposeful focus for talking, art or drama therapies and/or planning interventions.
This technique is complimentary to the Kawa Model, but the resource was developed independently by a Drama and Narrative Therapist.

A superb flexible tool, enabling work from a single card depicting a section of a river, to continuums of cards – with different continuums representing the complete river: past and future, real and imagined. GRAHAM WILLIAMS, ASSOCIATE AT CHANGE PARTNERS
As an expressive therapist I find the 'River set' an original and valuable therapeutic tool. It enables the client to express, unthreatened, his inner world and the changes he experiences during his life. NAOMI SHOSHANI, ART THERAPIST Teacher for children with Learning Difficulties (retired)
